Inleiding:

Niko van der Klugt, heeft een opleiding genoten als decoratieschilder & grafisch ontwerper.

Hij werkte van 1979 tot 1989 als theatertechnicus/belichter voor diverse gezelschappen en theaters o.a. Waagtheater/Delft, De Balie en de Engelenbak/Amsterdam en was in die hoedanigheid en als voorstellingsleider/podiumcoördinator betrokken bij festivals als Stage Door Festival, Festival of Fools on tour, Camaretten, Bredero en het fenomeen Open Bak, de Uitmarkt in de jaren van 1984 t/m 1991 en de 5 mei bevrijdingsrevues 1990/1991 plus de ADCN jaarprijs 1991. In deze periode maakte hij ook de licht & decor ontwerpen voor Engelenbak producties als, It was twenty years ago, Nes 71, 10 jaar Engelenbak in Carré, 500ste Open Bak, 5 x Pinter, Peer Guynt en begeleidde talloze theaterproducties uit het repertoire als lichttechnicus/belichter.

Zelfstandig:

Vanaf 1986 is hij zich gaan toeleggen op lichtontwerpen en vanaf januari 1989 werkt hij als freelance lichtontwerper. Vanaf dat moment maakt hij lichtontwerpen voor moderne dansgezelschappen en choreografen zoals Reflex, Raz/HansTuerlings, Lisa Marcus, Cecile van Deursen, Brenda Daniels, Itzik Galili, Ballet Du Geneve, Krisztina de Chatel, Neel Verdoorn, Atterballetto, Budapest Dance Theatre, Djazzex, Piet Rogie & Company, Bruno Listopad / Dance Works, Gulbankian Ballet / Companhia Instave / Korzo Productions. Maar ook Paul de Leeuw, Noord Nederlands Toneel, Sheryn Hilton Parker, Ro theater, DNA, De Bijenkorf, Vis a Vis, Nissan, tentoonstellingen en locatie projecten.

Technische Productie/Coördinatie:

In 1996 werd hij gevraagd om de technische coördinatie voor het Internationaal Choreografen Concours te Groningen te doen en vanaf dat moment heeft hij voor grote festivals/events de technische leiding gedaan zoals o.a. Dansplatform / Rotterdam, Springdance Festival / Utrecht, Nederlandse Gasunie / Haute Culture, Nederlandse Dansdagen / Maastricht, 25 jaar Fact, Dansontmoeting en de Rotterdamse Dansacdemie.

Voor die laatste is hij ook als gast docent aangetrokken, na eerder voor 3 jaar aan het IAB (Instituut voor Audio en Belichtingstechnieken) te hebben lesgegeven, voor het begeleiden en geven van workshops licht en algemene theater-basiskennis voor afstuderende nieuwe jonge choreografen en dansers.

In 1999 voegde hij zich bij Kees en Mike van de Lagemaat, Lichtontwerpers in de Lichtfabriek,
ontwerp & productieburo.
Vanaf Januari 2000 werken Kees en Niko samen verder onder de naam Lichtontwerpers.nl

Introduction

Niko van der Klugt was trained as a decorator and graphic designer. From 1979 to 1989 he worked as a theatre technician and lighting expert for a number of theatre companies in theatres like Waagtheater in Delft and Balie and Engelenbak in Amsterdam. As production manager and stage coordinator he was involved in festivals such as Stage Door Festival, Fools on tour, Camaretten, Bredero and the phenomenon Open Bak. From 1984 to 1991 he was also involved in Uitmarkt, in 1991 in the ADCN Annual Award and in 1990 and 1991 in the 5 May liberation revues. During this period he also designed lighting and scenery for Engelenbak productions like It was twenty years ago, Nes 7, 10 years of Engelenbak in Carré, 500th Open Bak, 5 x Pinter, Peer Guynt. On top of that he was the lighting technician for countless repertory productions.

Independent

From 1986 Niko has specialised in lighting designing and as of January 1989 he has worked as a free lance lighting designer. He has made lighting designs for modern dance companies and choreographers like Reflex, Hans Tuerlings of RAZ, Lisa Marcus, Cecile van Deursen, Brenda Daniels, Itzik Galili, Ballet du Geneve, Kriztina de Chatel, Neel Verdoorn, Atterballeto, Budapest Dance Theatre, Djazzex, Piet Rogie & Company, Bruno Listopad of Dance Works, Gulbankian Ballet, Companhia Instave and Korzo Productions. But also for Paul de Leeuw, the Noord Nederlands Toneel, Sheryn Hilton Parker, the World Music Theatre Festival, DNA, De Bijenkorf, Vis a Vis, Nissan, exhibitions and local projects.

Technical productions and coordination

In 1996 Niko was asked to coordinate the technical aspects of the International Choreographers Concourse in Groningen and since then he has been in charge of the technology for big festivals and events such as Dansplatform in Rotterdam, Springdance Festival in Utrecht, Nederlandse Gasunie in Groningen, Haute Culture and Nederlandse Dansdagen in Maastricht, 25 jaar Fact in Rotterdam, Dansontmoeting in Utrecht and the Rotterdam Dansacademie.

For the latter he was also employed as a guest teacher after a three-year involvement in teaching, monitoring and giving workshops in lighting and general basic knowledge of the theatre to graduate choreographers and dancers at Instituut voor Audio- en Belichtingstechnieken

In 1991 he teamed up with Kees and Mike van de Lagemaat in the Lighting Factory: a lighting design and production agency. From January 2000 Kees and Niko have continued together as Lightontwerpers.nl. Beside their work for the theatre they are also expanding into the field of lighting architecture.
